AP Exam Results Reminder

This is a reminder for students to check their AP scores, which will be released on College Board this Wednesday, July 21st. We also offer a wide variety of AP classes for students who are looking to take them next year for the sake of fulfilling admission requirements or adding some academic rigour to their timetable. More information can be found about them on our site, www.qlearning.ca, or you can call us at 604-279-6889.

Quantum Summer Camp

Our summer camp is in full swing! The first session runs from July 5-30, while the second session runs from August 3-27. The camp is aimed towards children between 4-6 years old. Week 1 was packed with all sorts of fun activities, and we’re excited to share some of them with you.

For the active portion of this camp, students played sportball and went horseback riding at Thistle Stables in Southlands. Both classes kept the children on the move, improved coordination and balance, and offered up a host of games for players to try out, including baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, golf, and tennis.

Meanwhile, art camp allowed the students to explore their creativity and learn a bit more about one of the world’s most famous artists: Vincent Van Gogh. In this two day camp, students were given the opportunity to replicate Van Gogh’s famous Starry Night painting, inspired by the Starry Night exhibit that is currently on display in Vancouver. A variety of colours and tools—acrylic, oil crayons, pastels, etc.—were offered to the children throughout the painting process, allowing them to express themselves in their own unique ways.

In our Science camp, students participated in the “walking colours experiment,” which involved the use of paper towels, cups, and dye to transfer colourful liquids from one cup to another. They learned how to properly follow and document scientific procedures, use their observation skills, and work in teams. They also learned about the difference between living and non-living things, and were encouraged to demonstrate their knowledge using real-life examples. The “polymer experiment” that took place in the latter half of the week followed a similar vein, teaching students about what happens when certain liquids encounter other liquids, as well as how these reactions might appear in everyday life.

So far, this camp has been a great way for children to explore a variety of fields and discover their passions at an early age. Registration is still open for the August session, so if you are interested in signing up, be sure to do so right away, as spots fill up fast.

Parenting Seminar

On June 26th, Ms. Janey was invited by the Do Re Mi Mommy Club to give a presentation on positive parenting. This seminar, which was attended by over a hundred people, focused on the importance of building deeper parent-child relationships, where empathy, love, and trust take centre stage in place of harsh discipline. Ms. Janey emphasized that while it is important to set expectations for young children, it is just as important to respect them as individuals, and that compassion is the key to unlocking a proper means of communication between parent and child. In order to provide a more holistic view of early childhood development, she ended off the seminar with a closer look at the psychological factors that drive children’s behaviour, which was then followed by a thorough breakdown of the steps parents can take to tie their parenting methods in with these factors.

Although this seminar covered quite a bit of content, there is still more to come! Part two of this series will be presented on Saturday, July 24th from 8:00-9:00 pm. To register, please use the link below. We hope to see you there!

Storybook Making

This month, Grade 1 and 2 students have been hard at work writing and assembling their very own storybooks. This program is set up so that each child will have a brand-new, fully illustrated storybook to take home every two weeks, with the first two books being environmental themed and the last two being biographies. Not only have the students been able to sharpen their writing skills through these classes, but they’ve been able to explore the joy of arts and crafts as well.
