CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) is a complete English proficiency test which is used to test candidates' English comprehensive ability, including listening, speaking, reading and writing tests. The English exam is designed and developed by University of British Columbia located in Vancouver, Canada. CELPIP exam is designed for immigrants to Canada or Canadian university applicants.

CELPIP exam will become the major language test for studying in Canada. Many universities in Canada, including University of Toronto and University of British Columbia have already recognized CELPIP; Canada also has confidence in promoting CELPIP to become a worldly recognized exam, such as IELTS. Currently, University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University also recognize and accept CELPIP exam.

CELPIP is a better reflection Canada’s native environment comparing to IELTS because it is an exam developed by University of British Columbia and ministered by Paragon Testing Enterprises. If the applicant is qualified to take the CELPIP- General exam, the applicant may omit visa interview; therefore, the time needed for applying for immigration will be greatly reduced.

The highest level in CELPIP is 5; the lowest level is zero. Usually, immigrants or students have to get at least level 4 or higher. CELPIP - General exam time is 180 minutes, including 120 minutes of Reading and Writing, a 30-minute Listening, and a 30-minute Speaking exam which is conducted online. CELPIP – Academic is 3.5 hours, with a 150-minute Reading and Writing section, a 30-minute Listening and a 30-minute Speaking.
